Every Situation Is Different
From HyogoAJET
The amount of time this phrase is used on the JET programme merits it getting its own page. You might know JETs with summer leave, study leave, and special leave just to go home. You might know JETs with no classes or total classroom responsibility, whichever you envy. You might know JETs with excellent apartments, wonderful coworkers, and PTA ladies that do their laundry. The second you complain about it, all you will hear is "Every Situation's Different!"
Even though we all applied through the same organization (CLAIR), JETs work for different contracting organizations. If you find yourself comparing your situation to another JETs and feeling that it's unfair, try not to dwell on the things you don't like about your situation too much, because you'll miss out on the positive aspects of your job. Your time in Japan is short, and it's up to you to make the most of it.
So next time your go-between's comparing you to your predecessor, the guy with plenty of energy, perfect punctuality, and impecabble Japanese, just remind them... "Every JET Is Different"
