What is Hanshin

The Hanshin (阪神) Region is the area between Osaka and Kobe, and takes its name from the Chinese readings of Kanji from both cities: 阪 ("han") is the "saka" in "Osaka" (大阪), and 神 ("shin") is the "ko" in "Kobe" (神戸). It includes the cities/towns of Sanda, Takarazuka, Inagawa, Kawanishi, Itami, Amagasaki, Nishinomiya, and Ashiya. The Hanshin Area is known as a large industrial region, but is also home to a number of tourist sites.
